The separator filter is one of the main components of the air screw compressor. The function of this filter is to separate oil particles from compressed air and it is different from element filter and hydraulic filter. The quality of the separator filter has a very important effect on the performance of screw compressor and the quality of the air coming out of the compressor.

Compressed air enters the separator tank after leaving the air generator unit, and at this stage, the two-phase flow (air and oil) is under pressure, and at this stage, a separator filter is needed to separate the outgoing air from the oil in the separator tank.

Separation of oil from compressed air takes place in 4 stages, the first 3 of which are inside the compressor:

Due to the twisting and centrifugal force created inside the separator tank and the settling of oil molecules
Filtering oil particles with special microfiber material and paper
Suctioning some of the oil that has passed through the separator filter and re-injecting it into the air end unit by the one-way oil suction valve
Absorption of oil particles by microfilters.

The permissible amount of oil particles in the compressed air coming out of the screw compressor is about 5 ppm to 10 ppm by observing all the points of correct installation and maintenance of the compressor.

Separator filter can be prepared and used in two common types: tank (internal) and cartridge (external).
